May the 4th Be With You! And a sale on Rising Book 1

Today is May the 4th, or "May the 4th be with you!" day. ;) I'm a huge Star Wars fan. Do you want to know how I learned to finish a story? Writing Star Wars fanfiction. Yup. I am very not ashamed of this. Granted, a lot of it would make me cringe if I read back through it now--my first fanfiction was written over ten years ago, and I've come a long way since then.

My son's name is from Star Wars. I fell in love with his name when I was fourteen years old and I was in the middle of reading some of the Star Wars books that follow the movies. Before my husband and I got engaged, I gave him a long spiel about how much I adored the name, and he thought the name was awesome.  (My daughter's name is from Lord of the Rings, but it's not "May the Ring be with you" day. Actually, I don't think I'd want to have a "May the Ring be with you" day, because who the heck actually wants that Ring to be with you? But apparently there is a Hobbit Day or something, and I'll take that.)

Anyway, happy May the 4th to all of you!

If you have not seen this video, it is fantabulous--even if the mere mention of this video makes it get stuck in my head, thanks to my kids having watched it a gazillion times.

Also, I'm having a sale on Rising Book 1: Resistance over at Smashwords. If you use coupon code AR55Q at the checkout, you can purchase it for $0.99. Usually it's $4.99, so if you were considering buying it at some point or you want something to read for the upcoming summer (YAAAY, summer's almost here!), you can take advantage of the low price. The coupon code is good for the next two weeks. :) (If you liked the book, please feel free to share this with friends you think might enjoy it. :))

  3. Yay Star Wars! I kind of liked the idea of Jacen and Jaina for twins ... which didn't happen. So that tells you what kind of a geek I am. I STILL remember the first time I discovered the Thrawn trilogy in the library, and was totally sucked in. For years, my cousin and I read every Star Wars novel we could get our hands on, and spent hours discussing them. (For the record, Mara Jade is in my list of "heroines I want to be best friends with.")

I never made it very far with Star Wars fanfic - I had one story that just wouldn't go anywhere, so I dropped it - but I have an entire alternate Expanded Universe plotted out in my head.

Have you read the X-Wing series? My very favorite of all the Star Wars EU. I still read Starfighters of Adumar to see how to combine rollicking humor with very serious ideals and ethics.

  5. I Love Moose Butter. And they don't actually look like that. That guy is actually just mouthing over (with permission). The group (Moose Butter) is a comedy troop, and you can book them for large engagements (weddings, conferences, etc.). I've seen some of the video's, they're hilarious.

  6. I love Star Wars but haven't seen any of it in a long time. I think it's time to get out the movies and have a marathon. And I think the tag "may the 4th be with you" is great! LOL!

  7. I love the original Star Wars trilogy. I've been seeing "May the 4th" all over today and I've been giggling. I think fanfiction is an excellent way to practice your writing. I wrote Harry Potter fanfiction. It's still out there somewhere.

    Have a wonderful weekend!
